Common thorny tropical American tree having terminal racemes of yellow flowers followed by sickle-shaped or circinate edible pods and yielding good timber and a yellow dye and mucilaginous gum. Synonyms: huamachil, manila tamarind, Pithecellobium dulce, wild tamarind.
