Deciduous tree widely grown in southern United States as an ornamental for its handsome maplelike foliage and long racemes of yellow-green flowers followed by curious leaflike pods. Synonyms: Chinese parasol tree, Firmiana simplex, Japanese varnish tree, phoenix tree.
