noun Aviette n. A heavier-than-air flying machine in which the motive power is furnished solely by the aviator. Note: In the 1980's and 1990's, using modern light-weight but strong films and supporting structures, planes such as the Gossamer Condor and Gossamer Albatross were built, powered by a human using pedals to drive the propeller, which could fly for tens of miles. These machines, however, were seldom if ever referred to as aviettes.
